Public Health Warnings Authorities cautioned that Friday's conditions posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance included: Drinking plenty of fluids. Limiting outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day. Never leaving kids or animals unattended in a hot car. An Extreme Shift This sudden spike in mercury comes on the heels of a intense winter storm that battered the area recently. That storm brought high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to the mountains, triggering evacuation orders for countless residents. Unfortunately, the severe weather also caused a massive avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities. Forecast Ahead The outlook suggests some relief is coming. The heat were forecast to drop to around 61°F (16°C) in downtown LA by overnight. Other locales that experienced ninety degrees were Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Meanwhile, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to experience the high 80s. For the weekend, central Los Angeles can expect weather in the eighties, with mid-70s temperatures likely for the week ahead.
