England’s men’s team will embark on their Euro 2028 journey at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they secure the anticipated passage for a competition taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

City’s stadium has not hosted an English men’s match since eight years ago, when Turkey were beaten 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to host the national team for their first match on a Saturday in June 2028.

England are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s ground.

Competition Launch and Rally

The championship was unveiled at an ceremony in central London on Wednesday night. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they arrived the location by around fifty protesters, who urged the Israeli team to be expelled from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were displayed with slogans saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Schedule

The inaugural fixture of the European Championship will be held at the the national stadium of Wales in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will include the Dragons if they secure a place.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the final, which will be held on July 9, 2028 with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an afternoon start, which will also be implemented for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will cater to families and help connect with a more diverse set of fans.

Participating Countries

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would do the same at Hampden Park.

The national sides of all four hosts will enter the qualification process; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through the standard process.

Venues and Playoffs

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground finalize the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight held at the national stadium of each host.

The qualifying draw will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be redeveloped in time, on 6 December 2026.

In excess of three million admissions, a record for a Euro tournament, are expected to be released to supporters.
