The relatives of young people missing after a deadly inferno at a establishment in a Swiss winter destination are confronting an agonising wait for answers and requesting information about their loved ones via social media.

The blaze ripped through the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Verified images show the ceiling catching alight as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take considerable time to formally name the fatalities of the tragedy, which killed 40 people and hurt another 119. A spokesperson noted on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to name the final individuals.

In the meantime, loved ones have been using social media to request information about their missing relatives who were in attendance that evening.
